First things first – Many problems can be solved by:

  • Refreshing your browser (usually by hitting F5, or Shift+F5)
  • Clearing your browser cache (see below)
  • Restarting the browser
  • Using the Firefox, Chrome, or Safari web-browser instead of Internet Explorer

How to clear your browser cache

To clear you cache in Internet Explorer, go to: Tools -> Delete Browsing History -> Temporary Internet Files

In Firefox: Tools -> Clear Private Data -> Make sure that only ‘cache’ is selected and click ok.

This should relieve your image problems..

We recommend using Chrome or FireFox since this seems to cause far fewer problems with WordPress overall.

How to solve image insertion issues

After uploading the image (using the Add Media button on the Write Post screen) you will see a field further down the upload window called Link URL.

Copy the contents of this field, which should read something like : http://ecochildsplay.com/files/2008/10/rgb.png

and then close the add media window.

Now click on the insert / edit image icon at the top of the post editor (picture of a small tree), and paste the above URL into the Image URL field. Job done, and should work every time.

Where can I find free Creative Commons Images?

The best place to find free images is searching Flickr for those available under a Creative Commons license.

To do this, go to http://www.flickr.com/.

Click “Search”.

Click “Advanced Search”.

Enter your search terms into the search box.

Scroll down and check the box next to “Only search within Creative Commons-licensed content” and “Find content to use commercially”

Click “Search”.

Another option is to go and search the Wikimedia Commons site:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images
