Strategic Standards

  1. Frequent posting: Some sites have a required post minimum to remain an active author. Please check with your editor and let them know what you can realistically accomplish (3-4 posts a week, for example). This will help in terms of knowing where we need to fill holes in the publishing schedule. Don’t volunteer for more than you can handle!
  2. Strong writing: Ultimately, our editorial standards are also strategic standards. Please avoid old search engine optimization tactics such as very frequent use of keywords, as this really doesn’t help with search engine placement – and it makes for awkward reading.
  3. Make wise use of social media: You will be provided with a separate document covering social media use – use these tactics to drive more traffic to your posts.
  4. Avoid blatant self-promotion and conflicts of interests: In order to maintain our integrity and balance, please avoid promoting your own business interests (products or services) unless approved by the Senior Editor. In general, he will only approve such promotions if they 1) are germane to the post, and 2) provide something truly unique for the reader. Please do not include post headers or footers describing your outside business activities: you may, however, list these in biographies that appear in author listings, etc. Make sure to disclose any relationships (business, professional or personal) with post subjects that could be construed as creating conflicts of interest.
